What if You’re Not ‘Feeling it’ This Season?

Your Holiday Coach Moment #3

Picture

What if the holiday is or the year has been a shit show?
What if meaningful relationships are in tatters or you not only didn’t reach your career goals, you’re out of a career? And what if your body/health has changed, but not in the way you had intended when the year started?

Sometimes in the cycle of life—and life is a cycle—we end up in a turn that is tough.
It’s hard to remember that this is natural. Our tendency is to believe that things must always be improving is simply against the laws of nature. Things fall apart, die and contract.

We are Most Excellent at Adaptation

Now may be hard, but I’m here to remind you that it’s not wrong! Change, and change that we deem ‘negative’ is a part of life. Our natural response is to try to hang on, hunker down and resist it – keep things the same. But, what we are most excellent at as humans is adaptation, resilience and growth through adversity.

Even if things are not your choice or the way you wish they would be, there’s a high probability something good can come from it. If something is dying, chances are there’s room for new things to grow in its place. Whatever you’re moving away from, there is something to move toward. There’s information to be gleaned and used inside it all. And, in spite of appearances, you are moving upward. Sometimes the only way to advance to the next part is to leave things behind.

Looking at Change as Opportunity

We always have a choice in how we view what’s going on around us. Feeling the fear and allowing it to dictate our actions keeps us scared and stuck. Feeling the fear, but choosing to look at change as opportunity, allows hope and growth.

You will adapt. You have before and you will again. You got this.

I invite you to take a moment, or many – Coach Moment #1

Embrace the imperfection – Coach Moment #2

Enjoy the season (as best you can).
I send you Peace & Love

They'll Remember the Love

Making Memories

Way back when my kids were little, my hobby was Scrapbooking. I took photos with a real camera, using actual film that needed to be developed. Then I would cut and paste (using actual scissors and glue) the photos into scrapbooks with ‘fun’ frames, decals and captions.

One particular Christmas, I took pictures of my children opening their gifts and of our activities throughout the day only to discover later there was no physical film in my one-function camera. Because preserving these memories in a forever-scrapbook was so important to me, I forced my kids to re-do the gift opening. Yes! I made them re-enact Christmas morning so I could get the pictures!

Every time my kids get to this page of their photo scrapbooks, they tell this story.

Your Love is the Frame

I tell this to remind you, all that you do to hold up traditions and create an atmosphere of family and love is actually the frame, or a container, for the experiences that want to happen. We stress ourselves out believing that by controlling the frame/container we control the experiences. You can’t know what your family will experience OR remember when they gather around your perfectly decorated tree or your painstakingly planned and prepared dinner.

They WILL remember the things that made them laugh, the things that made them uncomfortable, the things that made them feel seen and heard.

The best memories will be the moments that were not planned, orchestrated or laboured over. They will remember the love.

I See Your Heart

6/12/2017

Picture
                                                                   Your Holiday Coach here
                                                             with a Holiday Coach Moment

I See Your Heart

I see you adding holiday preparation and execution to your already loaded to-do list. Or, maybe, you’ve got the added burden of trying to make it all happen with way less because your income has been restricted. Or, maybe, your family is fractured, looking so not like the perfect picture of togetherness and the season just intensifies the pain and strain. I
see your heart.

Take This Moment

I invite you to take a moment, right now even. Breathe. All the way in and all the way out. Place your hand on your heart. Breathe all the way in and all the way out. Feel your powerful heartbeat. Sense the open space within where your love and caring lives. Breathe all the way in and all the way out. Feel how much you care about everyone’s happiness. Feel how special you want everything to be. Feel how much your inner self is striving! Send your Striver compassion. Tell her you see her. Tell her she’s doing great. Tell her it’s all going to be ok. Thank her for all of her caring and work. Breathe all the way in and all the way out. Now proceed with your day.

Take Many Moments. Here’s Why

Whenever we can take a break from our hamster wheel thinking/doing way of operating and switch over to a rest and digest (read about that here!) function, we allow our creative-self time to gather and sort through the pile of information that we are immersed in at all times and to make connections that help us solve our problems or give us creative inspirations.

Moments of meditation give us access to information that we don’t have when we are constantly in our fight/flight/freeze mode.

You might not ‘get’ any great inspiration or problem solutions in the moment, but trust me, the connections are being forged and if allowed to accumulate with repeated relaxation practices, you will get more from your creative, problem-solving self than from your reactionary, survival self.

And, along with all of the above, the constant stream of stress hormones we seem to swim in is interrupted, giving your whole system a much-needed respite.

On my journey back to wholeness I have explored many modalities and can honestly say the What Now Life Coaching session was one of the most illuminating (yet non-invasive) interactions I've had.

Jennifer used an interesting variety of tools to further guide me towards my "North Star" (soul's calling) and I walked away feeling grounded, comforted, validated and inspired.
