I got my word of the day from www.dictionary.com. Today’s word is Screed: A long discourse or essay, especially a diatribe. I’ve never seen or heard this word before, not that I remember anyway.
I pondered the word most of the day wondering how I would use it and I realized I had a diatribe already running through my head!
I was asked how my day was and I replied “I have a SCREED to compose about my day. When I am done, I will read it to you.”
The asker looked at me funny until I described the reason for and meaning of the word. I felt better. I’m not the only one not familiar with the word.
I just sat down and wrote out my screed. It feels really good to get it all out. This particular diatribe in essay form will never be published. I have no intention of saving it either. I encourage you to screed any diatribe that you may have knocking around in your head.
I did, however, get a great personal ad for life in general out of it. This was the conclusion of my discourse.
Dear Creative, Generous people who believe that there is more than enough to go around and who are not threatened by someone else’s brightness. I am looking for you. Let’s work, play, laugh together and cause each other to be bigger and better than our best selves. I require sincere encouragement – I have plenty to give. I need coddling, respect, support, availability, small gifts and especially attention. I am willing to supply the same. Note: people from the ‘there is not enough club’ need not apply.
I just may look up a word a day every day.
Item Ten: Buy coffee at other than usual place.
