Today is “Bell’s Let’s Talk Day.”. I’ve joined the promotion to fund mental health by posting a Facebook Live video!  For every 'Like' the video gets, '(Like' it HERE!)  Bell Canada will donate five cents to mental health care. Please, go Like it!

There’s no Magic or Secret, But There’s Help

I’ve experienced depressions several times in my life. I can tell you there is no ‘magic’ pill or ‘secret’ answer that will end depression instantly. I DO know that everything helps. Anything you do to help manage, understand, overcome depression leads to feeling better. The most essential component of your journey with/through depression is talking. Talk. Talk. Talk. As much and as often as possible. (Talking is Good For You)

Do the All the Things.

All the things recommended are the STEPS you need to manage your depression. Take medication, if prescribed with a proper diagnosis. Go to therapy. Write in a journal. Go for walks. Find ways to laugh. Shower. Get dressed. Eat good food. Sleep. Do what makes you feel safe and nurtured.

Keep Going

You can have bad days. Allow them, but, keep going. Don’t allow them to make you quit doing all the things. Depression is a bitch but it can’t end you if you fight back. Your thoughts, feelings and circumstances are temporary. You are eternal. Keep Going!

A Word To Caregivers

Thank you to all the wonderful people who listened to me. You literally saved my life and restored my sanity!

If you are in relationship with a depressed person, you are needed. Do what you have to do to get yourself in a ‘good’ place, physically, mentally and emotionally. The greatest thing you can do is LISTEN. You are not expected to have the answer. When you become tired, burned out, etc., give yourself a break, get what you need, take care of yourself. Do NOT lash out at the depressed person. They will forget the thousand ways you helped them and only remember your one harsh moment. They can not help it. Sad fact.

Talk Honestly. Feel Better

Today, I am in a great place. During my depressions, I was discouraged constantly and believed nothing was helping and I wasn’t working hard enough. That was just not true. I did all the ‘things’ mentioned above and I kept doing them until I felt better. Every time I talked honestly about what I was thinking, feeling and experiencing, I felt better. You can and you will too.
